The
Oscars Go Green
Al
Gores documentary, An
Inconvenient Truth, did more
than win a couple of Oscars last night;
it inspired the ceremonys producers
to go green. As they stood on stage,
the former vice president and Leonardo
DiCaprio lauded the events smaller
ecological footprint.
"For
the first time in the history of the
Oscars, environmentally intelligent
practices have been thoughtfully integrated
into the planning of tonight's event
to make our world healthier and help
combat the threat of global warming,"
Best Actor nominee DiCaprio told the
crowd.
"By
announcing this initiative from such
a legendary and respected stage, the
Academy is reaching tens-of-millions
of people across the world",
NRDC President Frances Beinecke said
in a press release.
The
efforts made by the Academy helped
spotlight the fact that, according
to Gore, the climate change crisis
is "not a political issue,
it's a moral issue," a message
that many celebrities seemed eager
to promote.
